It's been roughly two weeks so far, and I think I have adjusted to this culture quite well. Dont worry, I am NOT a fob nor do I plan on being one. I have discovered new things that people did not bother telling me about when I came here. For those of you who plan on coming to Korea, I will warn you.
1. People in Korea do not believe in napkins or paper towels. They use toilet paper for EVERYTHING. do they NOT realize that toilet paper literally melts on your skin when you try to use it to dry your hands?
2. People do not use paper cups to drink water when getting water out of a water cooler. they use these "cups" that are pretty much paper envelopes. I will take a picture of it next time. It truly is strange. I first saw this at the bank and I thought it was an envelope you put your debit card in. I was so confused.
3. Instead of normal dressing such as ranch, thousand island, italian & honey mustard, People eat blueberry, pineapple & yoghurt dressing. SERIOUSLY? i need my ranch people!
4. The normal size for paper here is A4 not 8x11. the sheets of paper are so frikin long!
5. All the women wear high heels ALLL THE TIME. no lie. they wear heels EVERYWHERE. i feel like a bum here but i am NOT about to wear high heels 24/7 just because everyone else does. i like to be comfortable thank you very much.
6. Men carrry BAGS. like legit bags. remember in the episode of friends where Joey carries a murse? At least his bag looked a tad like a briefcase. the guys here carry around bags that women would carry around... like Louis Vuitton. And on top of that, they dont even just have it in their hangs, they carry it ON THEIR SHOULDER. these bags are pretty enough that most girls would wear them. I swear im telling the truth.
7. The American names that these Koreans give themselves are HILARIOUS. here are some of the names that I have heard so far and it take EVERYTHING in my power to not bust out laughing.
a. Maxim: to be fair, he did named himself Maxim because he liked Maxim coffee so much. If only he knew what the name Maxim is associated with in the US.
b. mmmGood: no explanation necessary. exactly 3 m's.
c. dopeHEADz: an actual name of a student in my class. When I saw my roster, my mouth dropped. i dont even know where to begin on the level of awesomness that name is.
d. Bread: my friends have heard that name in their class TWICE already
e. ADFF: i dont even know what that is suppose to be. or what is suppose to stand for. oh dear....
There are more names that made me bite my tongue from laughing but I can't think of anymore. Oh the joys of living in Korea for two months. <3
PS. I saw my 2nd celebrity sighting last week. I do not know his name but hes a gagman supposedly. Can someone please help me name this guy? THANKS =]
